Developmentally-based, Relationally-focused Perspectives in Gestalt Therapy
with Dr. Richard G. Erskine
Sponsored by Spanish Association of Gestalt Therapy
Cancelled due to COVID-19
Training seminar with theoretical presentations, demonstrations of live therapy and group discussions of the theory and methods of a development-based approach focused on the relational process and practice of Gestalt Therapy.
Dr. Richard Erskine will present a contemporary integrative perspective on Gestalt Therapy by comparing and contrasting the original methods of Gestalt therapy that he learned directly from Fritz and Laura Perls with the new ideas that have emerged throughout his 50 years as a psychotherapist. Gestalt Therapy has been enriched by integrating relational and developmental perspectives. Some of the concepts that can be explored from these new perspectives include:
• Contact and interruptions to contact from a child's perspective;
• Life Scripts and therapeutic enactments;
• The use of the empty chair and two chair methods;
• Psychotherapy of introjection;
• Supportive therapeutic regression;
• To use or not use confrontation;
• Attunement to the client's rhythm, affect, and cognitive style;
• Acknowledgement, validation, and normalization;
• The concept of Relational-Needs;
In 1967 Dr. Erskine met Fritz Perls and immediately knew that he had something remarkable to teach about the practice of psychotherapy in depth. He immersed himself in learning Fritz's teachings and eventually became a faculty member of the NY Institute for Gestalt Therapy after studying Gestalt therapy extensively with Laura Perls and Isadore From.
Richard Erskine has more than 50 years of experience working with clients who have endured physical, emotional, and sexual abuse in childhood. He is the author of eight books on the theories and methods of psychotherapy and runs workshops and training programs in several countries each year. He is currently Professor of Psychology and Education at the Deusto University, Bilbao.
This workshop will be in Spanish and English with professional simultaneous translation.
