Unconscious Relational Patterns, Cumulative Neglect, and Therapeutic Involvement

Richard Erskine, Ph.D.
Sponsored by: nscience UK

a one-day workshop: Thursday, November 12, 2015
London, UK

In this day-long program Dr. Richard Erskine will focus on the developmental origins of the unconscious relational patterns that affect our clients in many dimensions of their lives. This workshop will emphasize how early attachments are formed through physiological survival reactions, implicit conclusions, explicit decisions, and introjections at various stages in the process of child development. Through lecture, case examples, and clinical discussions we will explore:

  • how early physiological, affective, and interpersonal experiences may inhibit the clients’ intrapsychic processes, health, and relationships;
  • the distinctions in therapeutic practice between attachment styles, patterns and disorders;
  • the developmental impact of cumulative neglect and relational traumas, and
  • the relationship of attachment to unconscious process and the formation of Life Scripts.

In an effective in-depth psychotherapy it is essential that psychotherapists understand the significance on internal working models; procedural, sub-symbolic, and implicit memory; and the unconscious impact of cumulative neglect. Dr. Erskine will describe the various methods of working within a caring therapeutic relationship to provide a secure base for the healing of various attachment patterns and disorders. This workshop may include either some case consultations and/or a demonstration of actual psychotherapy and a discussion of the methods used.
